RPM Cheat sheet

It turns out that I always have to search for the syntax when working with RPMs. To simplify my own life, and possible yours, here is a list of some commands I find useful. Some of them should be executed as root.

Install: rpm -i rpm-file-name
Install verbose with a progress bar: rpm -ivh rpm-file-name
Debug the installation: rpm -ivvh rpm-file-name
Uninstall: rpm -e package-name
Uninstall verbose: rpm -ev package-name
Uninstall debug: rpm -evv package-name
Upgrade: rpm -Uvh rpm-file-name
List installed packages: rpm -qa
List files in an rpm: rpm -qpl rpm-file-name
List files for an installed package: rpm -ql package-name

Getting help: rpm --help
Verbose mode: -v
Debug mode: -vv
Progress bar with hash marks: -h
